The Ginger or Torch Flower is a very beautiful, pink/red flower and is one of about 1,300 species of the very diverse Zingiberaceae family. It is not very clear where it originates from but Gingers are cultivated for millennia in both China and India and reached the West at least two thousand years ago.
In Malaysia the flower is called Bunga Kantan and used in various dishes or salad.
